a new end...

I'm currently working on a new site which should be up in the next month.

www.samuelbyrnes.com

This blog will remain but I felt a more official web presence was due. So spread the word. Would love some feedback when it goes up. Only 2 weeks left of my Diploma and looking forward to work. All guns firing right now as college work and deadlines pile up. Graduate exhibition coming up on Dec 5 and the poster and other promo collateral are finally done. High fives, Bert. So apologies for lack of updates but plenty of new work will be posted soon.

GALA IDENTITY + COLLATERAL

IMG_5535, originally uploaded by yes.i.sam.

Graduate Fashion Design Exhibition Identity. Included the naming, logo, poster, invitation, program guide and banners for the opening. A theme of evening couture and elegance needed to be conveyed.
Credit also to Nicole Kelamis & Olga Kozyrevitch.

Gala Invite + Pouch

The idea was to make the invite echo the exuberance the poster aimed for. The solution was a fold out invite housing a showreel of the graduating fashion students' work. The curtain is pulled back to reveal the event details. The pouch is a beautiful olive felt finished with gold foiling. Thanks to the massive assembly line of fashion design students for producing the pouches.

The Muse Gallery is a beautiful venue and we (the graphic design faculty) will be lucky enough to have this very same spot for our graduate exhibition this DEC 5. Please come and support us. More details to follow.

This is probably my favourite work so far. I got to go from concept to completion on this one. Amazing considering that it was first week working at Debaser, a tops studio producing amazing work for the music industry. If you've bought a CD made by an Australian artist recently, chances are they've designed it.

Check em out at www.debaser.com.au

Anyhoo, the client had a good idea of what they wanted but it was left up to me to interpret as best I could. Had fun smashing the pencil and all the type is hand done. This one's out in record stores now and I'm really happy with the result.

I travelled all the way to Tasmania just to spend hours meticulously crafting this carnivorous masterpiece. Takes you back to the mezozoic era doesn't it!

midnightswim_cover

Something I actually completed a fair while ago. October, 2005. Made myself known to fantastic local band Midnight Swim and was privileged to work from concept to completion on this EP art. Focused on capturing the mood of the EP with warm colours and almost ephemeral silhouettes and layers. On reflection I'd love to give the type a handwritten treatment which would link it more with the images. Also think the back cover layout is more resolved than the front. A labour of love is never finished.
